When every square meter matters — thoughtful planning is essential.
Our task was to transform a typical one-room + separate kitchen apartment of 46 m² into a full-fledged one-bedroom layout — with a spacious kitchen-living room, a separate bedroom, and a comfortable entrance area.
What is an one-bedroom apartment?
It’s a layout format where the kitchen is not separated into a distinct room, but instead integrated into a large common space: kitchen-dining-living area. The bedroom is located separately. This approach allows a compact apartment to feel more modern, comfortable, and livable.
What didn’t work in the original layout?
The clients immediately pointed out the problem areas:
- The kitchen was too cramped — there wasn’t enough room to gather as a family or host guests.
- If guests did come over, they had to be hosted in the bedroom, completely compromising privacy.
- The corridor, on the other hand, took up too much space — a dark dead-end with an awkward corner and multiple doors leading to the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom.
How we solved it
We reimagined the floor plan almost from scratch. We removed the partitions separating the kitchen, room, and hallway. Then we rotated the main interior wall 45 degrees, resulting in two autonomous spaces, each with its own window.
- The upper part of the apartment became a single bright space of 19.49 m², combining the kitchen, dining, and living areas. Two windows flood it with natural light. The space is clearly zoned without solid partitions, preserving openness. The living zone includes a cozy sofa and coffee table; the kitchen area features a compact L-shaped kitchen with built-in appliances; and between them lies a dining area with a table and chairs.
- The bedroom (11.92 m²) is located in the private part of the apartment, between the entrance and the window with access to the balcony. Along one wall is a built-in wardrobe that also acts as a sound-insulating buffer.
- The hallway (6.15 m²) now features a built-in wardrobe and a direct, logical connection to the living area.
